Since its launch in 2019, Stellar window and door system has been blazing a trail in aluminium system design. With its slimline flush aesthetics and quick installation properties, Mark Austin, Sales Director (Aluminium) at Epwin Window Systems, discusses why more fabricators and installers have turned to Stellar.
An exacting brief
Stellar was the result of extensive market and customer opinion to develop a brand-new aluminium window and door system aimed at the retail and light commercial sectors. The overriding mandate was to address the need for a cutting-edge aluminium window and door system which mirrored the design advances that had been seen in PVC-U product development.
Stellar was designed from scratch by a team of internal aluminium experts and delivers on all aspects of modern-day window and door design. The results are an extraordinary example of what a refusal to compromise on excellence can deliver.
Stellar’s flush aesthetics offer a unique proposition in aluminium system design and it’s easy to see why. Traditionally windows had flush lines to the exterior and a shaped or stepped profile inside. With Stellar, that stepped design is still an option, but now the flush lines can extend inside and out with the first fully-flush window option. It’s the ultimate in streamlined aesthetics and offers the fabricator and installer a point of differentiation.
Easy to sell
The appeal of what flush aluminium aesthetics deliver are summed up by Darren Capitano, owner of Abbey Windows. He said: “Stellar is a superior aluminium window and door system and the slimline, flush aesthetics make it an attractive product to sell to our customers. The low-level gaskets mean the frames look even slimmer, which taps into the trend for big expanses of glass which are so popular at the moment and the flush aesthetics present a straightforward sell. It is a stand-out aluminium product.”
Stellar continues to attract much consumer appeal, a view shared by Brent Walker, Owner of Walkers Windows, who said: “I call Stellar a ‘showroom product’. When customers see it on display, they are immediately drawn to it. It is visually different from other aluminium windows on the market and its contemporary, high-end aesthetics make it a very easy sell.”
Stellar has the slimmest sightlines on the market – it is at least 30% slimmer than the main competing systems, which delivers a 12% larger glass area too.
Stellar has a unique pre-gasket system which saves up to 20% on fabrication time and reduces overall waste. The patent-pending Reverse Butt Joint means no dummy sashes or reverse adaptor profiles are needed, so the system uses up to 30% less aluminium. It takes fast-fit espagnolettes so no shootbolts are required too.
Robin Squibb of Clearview Glaziers became one of the first fabricators to manufacture Stellar. Robin said: “We have found the Stellar window and door system a breath of fresh air to fabricate. It seems like aluminium windows should have always been this way. No horrible adapters everywhere just clean, neat lines. It is straightforward to manufacture. We are delighted.”
Stellar is an internally glazed system with patent-pending knock in beads which makes glazing rapid and is a unique feature normally only seen on PVC-U windows. Installer Darren Young of DP Joinery, Stoke on Trent, summed up his experience of fitting Stellar: “The Stellar bifold door was the best bifold I’ve ever fitted. I saved loads of time because the beads clipped in and it gave the neatest finish I’ve ever seen, plus the speed of fitting, about an hour quicker than a comparative aluminium bifold door, meant we reduced the time spent on site.”
An award-winning system
Stellar achieved double-award winning status at the prestigious G19 Awards in London. The system picked up New Product of the Year and the Promotional Campaign of the Year.
Stellar has been one of the biggest system launches for many years and its intelligent design and superior aesthetics continue to attract a great deal of attention.
Stellar was designed to take aluminium systems to the next level and with more products due to be launched in 2021, the star in aluminium shines brightly.
