VEKA visit impresses Vince Cable

Vince Cable visits VEKA

Following a visit to VEKA plc, Business Secretary Vince Cable praised Burnley as a “positive success story.”

The Lib Dem Cabinet Minister was invited to the town by MP Gordon Birtwistle and the first port of call was VEKA’s Farrington Road factory.

Dave Jones, MD of The VEKA UK Group, and Network VEKA MD John Ogilvie led a tour of the site. The Business Secretary was shown the PVC-U extrusion process in action and discussed VEKA’s continuing investment in UK manufacturing, which has seen 100 new jobs created and £10million spent on plant, people and state-of-the art facilities over the last year.

The visitors were also able to see the new mixing plant which is currently under construction and which, once completed, will double VEKA’s current capacity in tonnes.

This visit marked Mr Cable’s fourth trip to Burnley and he described the town as “a positive success story” adding “there are a lot of very successful manufacturers here. The future is going to come from manufacturing exports, so Burnley is very well positioned.”

Mr Cable and his wife joined Dave Jones and other VEKA staff once again in the evening, with around 30 local business figures, for a meal at a local hotel and further discussion of regional economy growth.
