Tradelink increases aluminium performance


Tradelink, the trade fabricator celebrating 20 years experience of understanding installers’ needs, has been investing in its machinery to help deliver savings in both cost and efficiency for the aluminium arm of the business.

Managing Director, Jim Moody explains the reasoning behind the investment: “We previously relied on a manual corner crimper, which took 15 minutes to set up for each profile. It was often required to process several different aluminium sections per production shift, resulting in hours being absorbed by tool setting times alone in any one day.”

The decision was taken to invest in two elumatec automatic pneumatic crimping machines, which were sourced for Tradelink by WMS (Window machinery Search). Jim continues: “We work closely with Peter, Kurt and Rudi Halfmann at WMS. Although they’re based in Doncaster, Peter is able to sweep the whole of Europe for the right machines. They do a superb job for us, often working to very tight deadlines.”

In this case the two automatic crimpers were sourced, refurbished and tooled by the company and put into production at Tradelink within three weeks. Furthermore, payback on the capital expenditure was just six months. One man can operate both automatic crimpers, and the tool change takes a matter of seconds, so whatever the aluminium system, it’s now no problem at Tradelink Aluminium.

As an example, a recent contract was worked out to include a whopping 5030 corners – with the previous analogue crimpers taking some 15 minutes to set up for each job, that would have equated to a lot of minutes! With the new machines providing a 3-5 second tool change, Tradelink can ensure efficiency alongside the quality of their aluminium range.
