Richard Graham marks Hourglass anniversary

Gloucester MP Richard Graham MP visited manufacturer of sealed glass units Hourglass Seal to mark the first anniversary of the company installing its £400,000 fully automated machinery. Since the machinery was installed early last year, the business has successfully expanded production to 3,000 double glazed units a week and increased turnover by 11 per cent.

During his tour of the factory, Mr Graham viewed the state-of-the-art For.El Double Glazing Line from Promac. It has brought the very latest technology to Hourglass, including a fully automatic Super Spacer Applicator, Argon Gas Coupling Press and Sealing Robot. It is capable of producing the highest performing, most cost effective and energy efficient sealed units, which benefit from Edgetech’s market leading warm edge solution Super Spacer.

Mr Graham said: “I was absolutely delighted to take a tour of Hourglass and see this great piece of kit. Clearly, it has helped the business to increase production and achieve growth. It’s inspiring to see a local company investing and working hard to secure a strong future for itself and its staff.”

Kevin Averiss, managing director at Hourglass Seal, added: “The last year has been a tremendously exciting time for Hourglass and we were very pleased to celebrate the success of the business since installing the new line. The machine has helped us to build on our strong reputation for quality and innovation. It has also enabled us to manufacture the most technologically advanced sealed units available today, which deliver far better energy performance, durability and value for money for the homeowner.”

Hourglass has also recently appointed a new production manager to oversee the production of the sealed units and help the business to expand in the future. Rob Hicks has many years production experience in the window industry having formerly worked for Caerphilly-based window fabricator Premier Trade Frames.

As well as significantly increasing production to 3,000 units a week on a single shift basis, the machine minimises the handling required on the sealed units, which in turn reduces the chance of them being marked or damaged. Super Spacer brings many benefits to Hourglass’s sealed units; further improved energy performance, reduced condensation and greater durability. It is also the best product to use in triple glazed units, which Hourglass has been manufacturing for some time. And because the desiccant is impregnated into the spacer, the risk of any finding its way into the unit is eliminated.

Hourglass is part of the Gloucester-based Customade Group, which is a specialist supplier of high quality PVC-u and aluminium fenestration products. The Group’s comprehensive range of products spans windows, doors, conservatory roofs, architectural aluminium, glass and sealed units, all of which are manufactured using the latest state-of-the-art technology.
